Gill Thomas
A Creative Brand Consultant
What I do
I work in the area of brand strategy.
This spans brand positioning, brand architecture, visual strategy, internal and external communications, workshop facilitation and creative coaching.
How I do it
My approach is both creative and strategic.
I like to see the big picture and the smallest detail, and my work is always grounded in business realities.
Whilst my focus is on the strategic side of projects, I have a design background that helps me work effectively with design teams to translate strategy into reality.
Who I do it for
I work both directly with clients and in partnership with design agencies.
I’ve worked across the broadest spectrum of category and sector, in the UK and globally, with clients and agencies both large and small.
Experience
I have over 30 years of design industry experience and have been working independently on brand strategy for the last 15.
I started my career as a designer at Pentagram before spending 18 years at The Partners (now Superunion), where I became a Board Director and Creative Partner, helping to take the business through a sale to WPP.
I’ve judged on a number of industry awards panels, including D&AD, Design Week, Association of Photographers and New Designers. I’ve been an External Examiner for Cardiff University and sat on the AOP Portfolio Surgeries panel.
I’ve lectured on Brand Strategy at LCC, I’m a mentor for the MSc Brand Leadership course at UEA, have been on the DBA Experts Register and taught Design Strategy workshops for D&AD.
